DEFINITION:
Positions in this series determine the responsibility for payments, the amount of payment, and compliance with payment orders on cases brought to the Child Support Services Department. Positions perform related duties equally required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the advanced working and pb level in the series. Incumbents are expected to handle the most circuitous and sensitive child support cases; assist the supervisor in reviewing the work of and preparation Child Support Officers; perform case audits for quality assurance and staff development; and/or perform other specialized assignments equally determined by the needs of the department.
Positions typically study to a Supervising Child Support Officer.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not express to, the following:
1. Conduct interviews with complainants, defendants, and witnesses to elicit information to establish paternity, failure to provide, verify addresses, employment and financial circumstances.

Evaluate non-custodial parent'due south financial resources and determines responsibility and corporeality of payments peculiarly in cases where independent decision-making is required; attempt to obtain stipulated judgment for child support payments consistent with fiscal evaluations; determine action to be taken and refers to advisable section.
3. Negotiate with attorneys and defendants to constitute amount of kid support and settlement of arrearages.
4. Regularly review and monitor support cases to update information and ensure payments are made as ordered.
5. Initiate legal action to obtain courtroom ordered support, enforcement of court orders, or institute paternity.
6. Initiate correspondence to clients, attorneys, country and local agencies; initiate reciprocal action with other jurisdictions.
7. May exist required to show in court, have trial notes and assist Attorneys during courtroom proceedings.
8. Provide vacation and temporary relief as required.
9. Participate in the training and evolution of Child Support Officers and related support staff; monitor case assignments to ensure that dispositions are made in accord with regulatory guidelines; assign, review and coordinate work performed; provide input in the evaluation and discipline of subordinate staff.
10. Handle and investigate the more complex and sensitive child support cases and/or provide guidance to Child Support Officers regarding complex cases.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:Thirty (xxx) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in Business/Public Administration, Administration of Justice, Behavioral/Social Science, English language, Math, Humanities or closely related field. TranscriptsMUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess an Associate'due south degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields of study.

Feel: 18 (18) months of full-time experience establishing or enforcing child support obligations as a Child Support Specialist(or equivalent) in a county agencyoverseen by a State Department of Child Support Services.
